This place is amazing, hands down got rving right!Spacious lots,clean and quiet facility. We were so glad to have a pull through for our 45' fifth wheel
and spot has trees on both sides of us.Laundry room and washrooms were spotless.Large green fields to walk our dogs through and at night security would ride around.There was a pool there but we did not venue it,staff was friendly. Would definitely visit this beautiful place again

This was a fantastic campground.   We stayed busy visiting all the sites so we're unable to make use of the pool, etc.  Everything was well kept and clean.  We were in the Line Camp, Site #275.  Plenty of room and quiet.  Will definitely be back.

We are on a month long RV trip from St Louis visiting the Black Hills area before we head farther west!  Rafter J was an absolutely perfect location for everything we wanted to see in 4 days!  And the campground was absolutely beautiful!  Everyone was polite and inviting!  We will definitely recommend Rafter J to our friends and family!  We can't wait to visit again! Came here alot pulling a 5th wheel on vacation. Family owned camp ground. Very clean and well kept. Beautiful setting in the Black Hills. Hadn't been back in several years, came back in 2026 and still run by same family, same we'll kept grounds as before. Great walking trails and hiking. Very quiet! Rafter J Bar RV Park is absolutely beautiful and one of our favorite places we've stayed! The campsites are spacious and well spread out, so you don't feel crowded by your neighbors. The park is peaceful, clean, and surrounded by gorgeous scenery.

The hot tub was a perfect way to relax after a day of exploring, and the staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help with anything we needed.

The location couldn't be better—it's close to everything you want to see in the Black Hills, making it the perfect home base for sightseeing. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend Rafter J Bar RV Park to anyone visiting the area. We can't wait to come back!

Rafter J has been on our RV bucket list for the past 5 years and we were able to check it off this year. The facilities, sites and amenities were all equal to or exceeded expectations. Staff was professional, friendly and helpful. The views are amazing and it is conveniently located to access quite a few different points of interest and while near a primary road, it isn't visible. We will definitely plan to stay there again on future trips even though there are a lot of RV campground options in the area. They also have Rafter J branded merchandise in the office store which is an added bonus so we can help remember our trip.

As a side note, not all sites have trees/shade. During hot summer days the shade is important and helpful. During cooler days, the shadeless sites might be preferable. Bottom line - be aware that there are a variety of site settings so choose accordingly based on weather and need for Starlink.

Truly one of THE BEST campgrounds we've ever been to -- camp sites are spacious (they aren't squeezed next to each other), the campground office has a nice little store (for those "oops I forgot that" items), the laundry facilities are really clean & all machines are in excellent condition, the shower facilities are nice & clean (roomier than the RV shower & great water pressure). My husband and I stayed at this campground during a cross country trip. We found it quite by accident trying to find another campground we had stayed at years ago.

This is an amazing facility. Very clean. Nicely set up.

If you're looking for privacy pay close attention to the sites. There are quite a few that are closer together than we prefer. But the sites are gorgeous and well maintained. We lucked out, our site was awesome!

The interior roads are well maintained and excellent for the rigs and walking.

The cost is a bit higher than other locations, but when you see what they offer, it's worth it.

The staff was courteous, but in my opinion could be a bit more outgoing to people. My husband and I own and operate businesses, so we are well aware of the daily stress and grind of dealing with people. But as a service oriented business, there needs to be a front desk person who enjoys people and is the face of the organization. Don't get me wrong they weren't rude. I dinged them a point on the review but honestly, if I could score them a 4.5 I would have.

There are a lot of RV resorts in the Black Hills area, but Rafter J Bar Ranch is an absolute GEM! Its location is situated nearby Mount Rushmore, Black Hills National Forest and Crazy Horse Memorial. It's also close to downtown Hill City, which has a few good places to eat. Most importantly, the layout of the sites within the campground is exceptional -- we've never stayed in a place that gave so much elbow room between sites! It is nestled next to the Black Hills, which means the scenery from most sites is amazing. In addition, the sites are level and many have extra amenities like a concrete patio, fire pit and Adirondack chairs. Although we didn't use the pool or hot tub, they looked exceptionally well-maintained and were getting lots of use. The camp store is well-run, and their ice cream is DELICIOUS! The folks who checked us in were so nice and helpful, as well. Once you drive past those other RV spots (all of which are just feet off the busy roads with sites that are butt-up with one another), you'll realize how great of a choice you made to book your stay with Rafter J Bar Ranch!

We have stayed in many RV resorts Though our cross country travel and we. A say without reservation that is one is the most beautiful and picturesque one we've been at. The spaces are plenty big for our rig. Does not feel crowded. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It snowed while we were there and staff member checked on us periodically. Me and my family went to Rafter J Bar Ranch and we had so much fun. The cabins were clean and I really loved the atmosphere of the area. It was so beautiful, even when it rained. I loved seeing the sun rise over the tall, green trees. The area reminded me of Colorado, a place I've grown to love because of how beautiful it is. It's a great spot to go camping with family. Overall, the area was clean. There weren't many people around, which was both good, but also I feel like there weren't many employees to ask questions to. I saw maybe 1 or 2, but they were really nice. Anyways, I loved our trip and it was amazing! I am totally coming back here! We found this campground by accident but firmly believe it is the best campground we've stayed.  Everything is well maintained and the sites are plentiful and spacious. We stayed in the Ranch area and had super large site just steps away from a great bathhouse. And to top it off, they have a fantastic pancake breakfast for $5. We are local the Black Hills. Rafter J is our favorite place to the camp. The sites in ranch camp are spacious, level, and scenic. We have plenty of room to explore, play, and set up our hammocks. Our kids can ride bikes around the loop without fear of heavy traffic. The pool is clean and warm. The playground is fun for all. The shower house is clean and plenty of hot water. We were there the last week of July. First time staying. The place is awesome. Very clean and well kept. Staff was extremely friendly. The store is great. They have pizza and ice-cream for the nights you may not feel like cooking. We had one of those nights. Our site in Line Camp was nice and roomy. Plenty of space between units. We are avid campers and this was our first time to the Black Hills. This campground was wonderful. Very well kept! Our site was large, had a great fire pit and was very quiet. Rafter J Bar Ranch has to be one of the nicest campground in the USA! This place came recommend from so many people when asked for places to stay centrally located in the Black Hills and they all were right! We had an amazing site in the Ranch Camp section that backed up the forest and were greeted by the grazing herd. This campground is very close to Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer, and only a short drive to Sturgis and Deadwood. We stayed for 5 nights of our 4 week trip from NY and wished we planned to stay longer. Our CO2 detector went out on us and I had a new one delivered to the campground, and was delayed getting to SD, on the morning we were leaving they made a quick trip to their PO box in the morning and picked it up and delivered to our site. Great location... conveniently located on 385 near Hill City, Custer & Keystone...Mt. Rushmore and Crazy horse are just a short car ride away and the Mikelson trail runs right in front of the campground...they have large sites with full hookups both shaded and full sun..great amenities like the pool and playground...and a well stocked store.

I gave 5 stars because RV lots and location are great, and there are a lot of sites. I perceived though, that customer service/friendliness of the front desk personnel is not as I've grown accustomed to while travelling through numerous campgrounds. We were only there for one night. It was very clean lots of grass and the kids loved the heated pool. I would stay here again.
